Dr. Elizabeth Cardoso is the Chairperson and Professor in the counseling programs at Hunter College for the last 18 years. She has published extensively in the areas of substance abuse assessment and treatment, multicultural counseling, psychosocial aspects of chronic illness and disability, and evidence-based practice. She was Principal Investigator for the $3.1 million MIND Alliance for Minority Students with Disabilities in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) grant funded by National Science Foundation, for which she worked with schools and community-based organizations in New York City and Newark to increase transitions of minority youth with disabilities to post-secondary education opportunities in CUNY.
She will draw from that experience to increase post-secondary opportunities through MY-CIL. Dr. Cardoso currently has a Long-term Vocational Rehabilitation Training grant and was formerly a Co-PI on the Stats RRTC. Dr. Cardoso received her master’s degree in counseling from Columbia University Teachers College and worked for two years as a vocational rehabilitation counselor in the South Bronx in a residential drug treatment program. She received her Ph.D in rehabilitation psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1997. She is a licensed psychologist in the States of New Jersey and New York and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor.
