Dr. John O’Neil is Professor Emeritus at Hunter College, where he directed the graduate program in rehabilitation counseling for 25 years. He will collaborate on the study of CIL practices (R3), development of a course on serving out-of-school minority youth (T2) and dissemination activities. Dr. O’Neill is currently the Director of Employment and Disability Research at the Kessler Foundation and Project Co-Director of several funded research efforts including Early Inpatient and Assertive Outpatient VR Services for Individuals with SCI and Children’s Specialized Hospital Return-to-School Outcomes. For NIDILRR, Dr. O’Neill directed three NIDILRR funded RRTCs, the RRTC on Individual Characteristics and Employment, the RRTC on Disability Statistics and Demographics, and the RRTC on Employment Service Systems, and he was a principal for 10 years within the RRTC on the Community Integration of People with TBI. For six years Dr. O’Neill sat on the New York State Rehabilitation Council and was that Committee’s representative working with the State vocational rehabilitation agency to create a comprehensive system of personnel development. Dr. O’Neill’s wealth of experience working with different organizations and providers will help the MY-CIL as it works with CILs on identifying strategic collaborations with other service providers.
